Ten-plus years in this industry, and the best friends I have are the ones I made behind a bar or on a floor. We're bonded through mutual disdain for the rude and the shared desire to have a great time and live life. We're underappreciated and underpaid, and we still make nightlife better for everyone who walks through the door.
A few months ago I was buying gifts for my staff while I was still general managing, and I realized something: I was close with these people, and I still didn't know them well enough to know what they'd actually want. I went looking for something built for us, people in this industry, and couldn't find it. Three months later, I decided to just build it myself.
I pulled in a group of industry people who are also artists, and we designed what we'd actually want to wear on shift if given the freedom, and what we'd get for the people we care about when we're not sure what else to give them. On The Rocks is meant to be the gift hub and the backbone of this industry: made sustainably, made with passion, made by people who've done the job. At the end of the day, we're here for a good time, not a long time.
